Course Description: This course will cover classical Euclidean geometry, and modern non-Euclidean geometries. Topics include - Classical Euclidean Geometry, Planar isometries and patterns, Spherical geometry, Euler's formula, Regular polyhedra, and other related topics.

Required textbook: Geometry from Euclid to Knots by Saul Stahl, Dover Publications, ISBN: 0486-47459-3

Homework and Quizzes: Homework problems will be posted on class homepage. I highly recommend working jointly on homework problems with fellow students. Homework will be collected and graded. We will also have in-class quizzes which will be announced in advance.


Exams and Reports: We will one midterm exam during the semester, a course report and a final exam.

Grading: The course grade will be determined as follows: 20% Homework/Quizzes + 30% Midterm Exam + 20% Report + 30% Final Exam.

Optimal Method of Study: (1.) Come to class (attendance is mandatory). (2.) Read the relevant sections and websites after class. (3.) Do the homework. Leave time to think--do not put homework off until it is due! (4.) Form study groups and discuss with other students. (5.) Come to office hours or email with any questions.

Attendance is mandatory. Cell phone usage of any kind during class is not allowed. Academic dishonesty and cheating will not be tolerated. Please see CUNY's Academic Integrity Policy.

  5. Short presentation (around 5 minutes) of report summary on Monday Dec 9th in class
  6. Homework 7 posted and due by Wednesday Dec 11th (last class).
  7. Final Exam on Wednesday Dec 18 during class time
  8. Class cancelled on Monday Dec 2nd Due to inclement weather in the New York - New Jersey region and hazardous driving conditions, our class on Monday Dec 2nd 2019 is cancelled.

  10. Note that students agreed to the proposal to weigh midterm and final both to 30%.
