Abstract: An alternative method is described for determining the hyperbolic structure on a link complement, and some of its consequences are examined. The method uses ideal polygons bounding the regions of a link diagram rather than ideal triangulation of the complement.

Abstract:
For hyperbolic 2bridge links, we give formulae that allow one to find the exact volume, i.e. to construct a polynomial and to find volume as an analytic function of one of its roots. The computation is performed directly from a reduced, alternating link diagram.

Cubical complexes and RAAGs Reading Seminar
About the seminar: This is a reading seminar on Cubical
complexes, Right Angled Artin groups (RAAGs) and their applications to
group theory and 3manifolds. We will start by covering some
background topics and proceed to read parts of the lecture notes by
Daniel Wise (linked below), which is based on his lectures given at
the Graduate Center in summer of 2011 (see link below).
This seminar is accessible to graduate students and
nonexperts. Everyone is welcome.
