I have posted grades on Blackboard. I have not officially posted them yet in CUNYfirst. If you're among the (small number) of people who got a D and requested it be changed to an F, I'll do that when I officially post grades, but the D will still show up on Blackboard. Thanks for your class participation and happy holidays!
I've posted the scores on the final. (I have not posted the final grades yet, but I'll try to get to that as soon as I can.) The approximate grade scale has the C range from 34 to 41, the B range from 42 to 66, and the A range 67 to 100. The high grade was 85, and the median was 46.
I'm grading the final now and am hoping to finish by tomorrow and get the grades out then. Hopefully this doesn't apply to very many of you, but if you think you might be in danger of getting a D and you'd prefer an F to a D, please let me know as soon as possible.
Here are solutions to the final, in case you're curious (only to version A of the exam, but the difference between the two is very small). Thanks for all your work this semester, and I hope you enjoy the holidays and the break.
This is just a reminder that the final is on Monday, December 17 at our usual class time (6:30–8:10) in our usual classroom. I'll do my usual office hour on Monday from 1:30 to 3 (or email me if you can't make it then and want to meet outside of those times).
As with the other exams, calculators and other electronic devices are not allowed. You may bring two pages of two-sided notes in your own handwriting on standard sized paper.
Here are some practice problems that I made last year for the final, and here are their solutions. And here is the actual final from my class last year, edited to remove questions that don't fit into this year's class. Here are the solutions. This final was more focused on the stuff from the end of the class. This year's final will include more material from earlier in the class.
Here are some other recommended problems from the textbook that haven't been assigned as homework: 1.7, 1.33, 2.5, 2.9, 3.21, 3.27, 5.27, 5.31, 6.9, 6.29, 8.31, 8.33(a), 9.2, 9.9(ab), 9.12. All except for the last one have answers in the back of the book to check, but you can also email me if you want to know more about the solution.
Here are the solutions to yesterday's quiz.
Also, please fill out your course evaluations! They're due tomorrow.
Please take the time to fill out your course evaluations for this class. The course evaluations are important feedback to the department, and we take them seriously.
Monday's quiz will be on Sections 8.1 and 8.2. As usual it will closely track the homework.
