In this lecture I will show how Borel cohomology can be used to find critical points of functionals where classical topological tools like Lusternik-Schnirelmann category or the Krasnoselski genus are not sufficient

From holomorphic immersions of the disk to the non-local Liouville equation
We will discuss a connection between the non-local Liouville equation and holomorphic immersions of the unit disk in the complex plane. As we shall see, the lack of compactness of this equation can be understood in geometric terms in a very transparent way.
