Academic Calendar
Goals: The goal of this course is to learn the topics in algebra and trigonometry necessary for calculus, which include domains, inequalities, polynomials, rational functions, right angle trigonometry, laws of sine and cosine, trigonometric identities, equations and applications.
Book: Precalculus, 6th Edition, Enhanced WebAssign Edition by Stewart, Redlin, Watson. Custom edition with Chapters 1-7 and student access code for Enhanced WebAssign. Cengage Learning (2012). ISBN-10: 0840068077.
Course syllabus: We will cover topics from Chapters 3, 5, 6, 7. See Syllabus for more details.
Prerequisite: MTH 123 or an appropriate score on the CUNY math proficiency/placement exam.
Calculator: A scientific calculator is required, and you need to know how to use it. Cell phone calculators are not allowed on exams.
Homework: Homework problems assigned from the book are listed on the Syllabus. Answers to odd-numbered exercises are in the back of the book. I highly recommend working jointly on homework problems with fellow students. This homework will not be collected.
WebAssign: WebAssign is computer graded homework which
the students are required to do for this course. It will count
towards 20% of the grade.

Exams: There will be 3 exams during the semester and a Final exam at the end of the semester. Review for Exams will be held in the class before the exam. Here are the tentative dates:
- Exam 1: Wednesday Feb 26th, in class
- Exam 2: Wednesday March 26th, in class
- Exam 3:
Wednesday May 7th, Monday May 12th, in class - Final Exam: Tuesday May 20th 2:30 - 4:30, in class
Grading:The course grade will be determined as follows:
20% Webassign + 45 % Exams + 35% Final Exam.
Missing the Final exam will result in an F grade.
Method of Study: Attend class. Read the textbook. Do the homework and Webassign problems. Discuss and talk to other students. Use my office hours or email me to ask questions.
