Course description: We will cover topics in algebra and trigonometry including introduction to functions, inverse functions and cover linear, quadratic, logarithmic, exponential and trigonometric functions and their properties, graphs and applications.
Course syllabus: We will cover topics from Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5. See Syllabus for more details.
Prerequisite: MTH 030 or an appropriate score on the CUNY math proficiency/placement exam.
Calculator: A graphing calculator is required, and you need to know how to use it. CSI Math Calculator Handout (free download)
Homework: Homework problems assigned from the book are listed on the Syllabus. Answers to odd-numbered exercises are in the back of the book. I highly recommend working jointly on homework problems with fellow students. This homework will not be collected.
WebAssign: WebAssign is computer graded homework which the students are required to do for this course. It will count towards 25% of the grade. WebAssign website Registration Instructions.
Exams: There will be 3 exams during the semester and a Final exam at the end of the semester. Here are the tentative dates:
- Exam 1: Wednesday Oct 5th (Review on Oct 3rd)
- Exam 2: Wednesday Nov 9th (Review on Monday Nov 7th)
- Exam 3: Wednesday Dec 7th (Review on Monday Dec 5th)
- Final Exam: Thursday Dec 15th, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm, 6S-138 (Review on Wednesday Dec 14th)
Grading:The course grade will be determined as follows:
25% Webwork + 45 % Exams + 30% Final Exam.
Missing the Final exam will result in an F grade.
Method of Study: Attend class. Read the textbook. Do the homework and Webassign problems. Discuss and talk to other students. Use my office hours or email me to ask questions.
