These are the goals for week 9
The goal this week is to cover briefly the main topics in chapter 6. This is an interesting chapter covering important topics about the shape of a distribution, the important parameters describing this shape, and some thoughts on how to estimate these parameters.
On Wednesday, I hope to begin discussing confidence intervals for an estimate of a population parameter. This material will come from chapter 7.
On Wednesday, it would be nice to have a brief discussion on how the media relays to the public poll information. Please find an example of a poll in the newspaper or internet and find the wording used to describe the results.
Homework from chapter 6 will be: 6.7, 6.8, 6.9, 6.15, 6.16, 6.17, 6.24, 6.35, 6.38.
Homework from chapter 7 are from sections 7.1 and 7.2: 7.2, 7.7, 7.12, 7.26, 7.29.
We will spend some time looking at the sampling distributions of the mean and median and other interesting statistics for various distributions. The goal of this is to introduce to you the range of possibilities that we may consider.
