These are the goals for week 3
We will cover the material in chapter 7 sections 2-4 and begin a discussion on chapter 8.1. Chapter 7 deals with confidence intervals. This is where we use the data, and some assumptions about the parent distribution to guess at values of the parameters.
In chapter 8 we learn hypothesis testing. In brief, you hypothesize that you know the values of the parameters, and from this compute the probability of the data you have. Based on the $p$-value you decide if you wish to accept or reject your hypotheses.
We will learn about the $t$-distribution, how to use MINITAB to do 1-sample $z$, 1-sample $t$ tests and the sign test for the median.
For Wednesday, please bring in some article from the paper where bivariate data is discussed. This can be a graphic or an article. Be prepared to discuss it with the class using any appropriate terminolgy for 2-3 minutes.
This is homework for sections 7.3, 7.4. Material has been assigned previously for 7.1 and 7.2.
7.34. (assume $\bar{y} = 250,000$, $s=35000$), 7.41, 7.51, 7.55
